Features Instructor Chuck Moore
Chuck Moore
MCT, MCSE, MCDBA, MCTS, CNI, CNE, A+, Network+ and Security+
Chuck graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education and taught public school in 1980. He soon moved to the IT world at Scientific Atlanta and provided PC support for the in-house engineers. Novell NetWare was the first networking platform that Chuck experienced. He became a CNE and advanced his technical skills further when he began teaching as a Novell CNI. Chuck continued teaching and providing technical support when he became an MCSE and MCT for the NT 4.0 operating system, as well as the Server 2000/2003/2008 operating systems. In addition, Chuck is certified and teaches classes as an MCDBA / MCTS for the Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 applications. Chuck's early experiences in hardware support transitioned nicely when he began to teach the CompTIA A+, Network+ and Security+ classes. Chuck seems to have a heart for the new student who is just starting the significant task of passing IT exams. He remembers when he was at that same beginning point, but after 27 years in the industry, he still gets a kick when he helps someone pass their first IT exam.
QuickCert Computer Training Webinar Topics:
Signed up for QuickCert's live-instructor webinars but not sure which one to take first? Check out the topic description details below.
File & Print Share on Wireless -
A secure wireless environment becomes very important when you want to share files and printers over a wireless network. This webinar builds on the “Secure Wireless” webinar concepts. You will see the process of creating and sharing a folder on 1 PC, and accessing the shared folder from another PC in the secure wireless environment. The same will be true for a shared printer in the wireless implementation.
System Recovery Part 1 – this Webinar will teach you how to recover when Windows fails. If you see the Blue Screen of Death, can you still get into Windows and fix the problem? What caused the problem in the first place? What do those numbers mean? Where can I get help in recovery? What methods are available to fix the problem before I wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows? We answer these questions and more in this webinar. We will discover how to interpret the messages on the screen when it fails. We will learn how to boot the Windows operating system in Safe Mode when “regular” windows won’t boot at all. And, we learn how valuable the System Restore utility can be in recovering a failed system. Note that the concepts of System Recovery continue with “System Recovery Part-2.”
System Recovery Part 2 – if we have wrestled with the Blue Screen of Death that was described in “Part-1” of System Recovery, we may still have to dig deeper in our troubleshooting. Before you “wipe that drive” in frustration, you may need to access and retrieve critical files. In this Webinar, we will continue learning how to recover a system by exploring the features of “repair” that can be accessed through Recovery Console. In this advanced utility, we will see how to overcome a badly corrupted “Registry” and even try the “repair” option when we boot the PC from the Windows XP installation CD.
Test Preparation Tips - Where do I go to schedule my test? How much does it cost? What do I need to bring with me? What will the test look like? How do I best study for the test? When will I know I “am ready?” This webinar will address all these questions in an effort to help you be as prepared as possible, and comfortable with the testing environment.
NTFS file permissions - NTFS file permissions control the access that users have to the folders and files in the Windows operating system. What a person (login name) can do, or cannot do on a folder and files is controlled by NTFS permissions. We will explore the management and modification of these permissions on your internal drives, as well as on an external USB drive. And, we will show how different users can be limited in their actions, while others have greater control on the file system.
Control Panel Tour - Many of the most useful tools for configuration and troubleshooting are collected in the “Control Panel.” This webinar will take a tour through many of the tools and utilities that are used to configure the Windows operating system, as well as provide troubleshooting abilities in Windows.
File Structure Maintenance - This webinar will explore the default file and folder structure in the Windows operating system. Both the Windows Explorer utility and the command line will be used to navigate the file structure. In addition, the same tools will be used to enhance, modify and maintain the file structure.
Startup: Processes and Programs - What is running in my PC? I just turned on the computer and there are a lot of programs already using up system resources. In this webinar, we help to identify the services or applications that are loaded automatically, and discover the resources ( RAM or CPU ) being used by the applications. We will learn ways to prevent programs from automatically starting, but still be available to execute when needed.
Disk Drive Maint. Part-1 – This Webinar will guide you through a recovery process and an upgrade process. If your C: drive is so corrupted that Windows won’t boot, can you still access and save your files? If you need more storage in your system are there physical and logical configurations that must be implemented? Of course the answer is “yes” to both of these, and we show you how to accomplish these skills in this webinar.
Disk Drive Maint. Part-2 – in the “Disk Drive Maint. Part-1” webinar, we explored options to still access and copy our critical data from a disk drive that fails to boot Windows. We also looked at the process of adding new storage to our computer system. In this webinar, we describe the tools that can be used to “cleanup, fix, and reorganize” that hard drive that is becoming slow due to clutter and absence of data optimization.
Registry Maintenance – This Webinar introduces you to the Registry and answers the question, “why do I care?” We will explore the registry, backup the registry, recover the registry and show you tools that permit you to choose a previous registry at an earlier point in time.
Antivirus software – This Webinar will explore the world of protection when your computer is on the Internet. We will see many different providers of protection software and the different packages available. An example software package will be installed and demonstrated for features and functionality. We will perform a custom scan and then check the logs of the protection software. Don’t be a victim-- see what is available to protect you!
Troubleshooting Tools – This Webinar will identify the software and hardware tools that can be used for troubleshooting. Some of these tools may be built into Windows, and some of these tools may be third party utilities. You need to know what tools are available, when to use them and how to recover as quickly as possible.
User Security – This Webinar will describe the concept of user security based on the different types of users that can be implemented in Windows. In addition, we will test the capabilities of system modification, as well as the file system permissions based on the different types of users. Don’t just walk away from your system, because I might be the next hacker who steps up to your PC!
Secure Wireless Configuration – many of us will use wireless connectivity out in public and in our homes. Are we secure? Can someone else use our home router and “see” our wireless laptop? In this webinar, you learn how to configure a wireless router with the security necessary to protect your home environment. In addition, we show you the configuration steps on the laptop for connecting to secure wireless routers. This sebinar is 2 hours long and is predominantly hands-on demonstration. See you there!
TCP/IP addressing – what do those numbers mean? Where do those numbers come from? What happens if I have the wrong numbers because I can’t type correctly? Are the acronyms DNS and DHCP on the test? All these questions, and more will be answered in this webinar. We start by understanding Binary numbers and then explore the different network “classes.” Then, we describe the process of automatically being assigned your IP address (those pesky numbers), or choosing to type the numbers by hand. This webinar covers information that will be in both your A+ certification test, as well as your Network+ certification test.
OSI Reference Model - this webinar applies to the Network+ exam objectives. The OSI Model helps vendors create interoperable network devices, defines the software protocols needed to communicate between different networks, and is used as a blueprint of communications between computers. In this webinar, we identify and describe the 7 layers of the OSI Reference Model.
Backup strategy – don’t ever say “if this computer fails …” You should always say “when this computer fails … I won’t have a heart attack.” The A+ exam covers the tools and concepts of protecting you data through backups. So, we show you the built-in “backup” tool that can be used to protect your personal data, as well as your System State. Or, you may prefer to do your backups in a more customized fashion through external storage. We will explore the options for external storage and help you understand the advantages to both of these methods of data and system protection.
